A police detective is a municipal, county or state police officer that has been assigned to investigative duties. A detective is responsible for investigating crimes within their jurisdiction that violate state laws. You do not just start off as a detective one must work many years as a patrol officer before being promoted to the position of detective.
An FBI Agent is a law enforcement position with the federal government. These positions are broken down into specific areas involving different types of crime. IE: White collar crime unit. Sex crime unit..etc. An FBI Agent investigates violations of federal law. FBI Agents do not enforce the same laws as a police officer or detective.

The FBI….is a federal team…these people investigate crimes against the federal government…or crimes that include large amounts of cash…they do not have limited jurisdiction.
A police detective investigate only local crimes and have limited jurisdiction…. only in the local agencies where they are assigned.
