Person Missing

So this week in the news alot has been the story of Jaycee Dugard, who was kept captive for 18 years and sexually abused, having 2 kids in the process. In one of our papers, there was an article at the side about Madeleine McCanns parents, who say this story gives them hope that Maddie is out there and not to give up etc. And I came across the view that if Maddie was your daughter, some people would rather she had died, than be going through hell like that. What is your opinion? If you were in the McCanns position, would you rather she had died than go through that, or cling on to that hope she might be alive and maybe see her again in the future? I thought it was an interesting view and wanted to know your opinions, thanks
